In the middle of the Green Oak Forest, Pippa the Squirrel found something very exciting. It was a little wooden car, but it wouldn't move! 'How does a car go?' Pippa asked her friend Barney the Bear, who was busy cleaning a shiny metal pipe at his workshop.

Barney set down his tools and knelt beside Pippa. 'Every car needs energy to move, just like you need acorns to run!' he explained. He showed her a small tank where fuel goes. 'Whether it is gasoline or electricity, this is the car's food that gives it the power to start its journey.'

Next, Barney opened a heavy lid. 'Inside is the engine, the heart of the car,' he said. 'The fuel makes the pistons move up and down very fast. This movement turns a long metal rod called a crankshaft, which spins around like a fast-moving top!' Pippa's eyes went wide as she imagined the tiny parts dancing.

'But how does the spinning engine make the wheels turn?' Pippa asked. Barney pointed to the gears. 'The engine sends that spinning power through the transmission to the wheels. When the gears lock together, they push the wheels against the ground, and that's what makes the car roll forward!'

Pippa hopped into the driver’s seat. 'I can steer!' she cried, turning the round wheel. Barney nodded. 'The steering wheel moves the front tires left and right. And don't forget the brakes! When you step on the pedal, pads squeeze the wheels to help you stop safely.'

With a push from Barney, the little car started to roll. 'Vroom, vroom!' Pippa cheered as she steered around a flowerbed. She finally understood that a car is a team of parts working together. Curiosity had turned her little wooden frame into a real forest machine!
