The Mystery of the Missing Marigolds
Leo and his firefly friend, Pip, discover the neighborhood community garden has been trampled. Instead of getting angry, Leo learns to calm his body and enlists the help of his neighbor to restore the garden.

Leo skipped toward the community garden with Pip buzzing happily beside him. Today was the day! The marigolds were finally blooming in bright, sunny rows. Leo loved the smell of damp earth and sweet flowers. He couldn't wait to show his mom the beautiful colors he had helped plant last month.

Leo stopped dead in his tracks. His smile vanished. The marigolds weren't sunny and tall anymore. They were flattened, crushed into the dark, muddy soil. A heavy, hot feeling bubbled up in Leo’s chest. He felt like shouting, and his hands curled into tight, angry fists. Everything felt wrong.

Pip flickered from bright green to a soft, pulsing orange. He hovered right in front of Leo’s nose, chirping a gentle, low sound. Leo felt his heart thumping fast. He wanted to stomp his feet, but Pip’s soft light made him pause. He took a deep, shaky breath, trying to slow down.

Leo took another breath, long and slow. The hot feeling in his chest stayed, but it didn't feel quite so big anymore. He looked at the muddy footprints leading away from the garden. They were large, messy prints. Someone had been here, but stomping around wouldn't fix the broken flowers.

Leo looked at Pip. 'We need a plan,' he whispered. Pip buzzed in agreement. They looked at the path again. The footprints went toward the big oak tree near Mrs. Gable’s porch. Mrs. Gable was their neighbor. Maybe she knew who had been playing in the garden today. They walked over together.

Mrs. Gable was sitting on her porch with a book. Leo felt shy, but he knew she was kind. He stood tall and took one more steady breath. 'Excuse me, Mrs. Gable,' Leo said clearly. 'Something happened to the garden. The marigolds are all crushed. Could you please help us figure it out?'

Mrs. Gable peered over her glasses. 'Oh dear, that is a shame,' she said kindly. She stood up and walked with Leo back to the garden. She looked at the footprints and then at the nearby park. 'I saw the neighbor's puppy, Buster, chasing a ball near here earlier today,' she explained.

Leo realized the puppy didn't mean to be mean; he was just playing. Mrs. Gable smiled. 'Let's fix it together.' They carefully lifted the bent stems and added a little water. Leo felt much better now that he had a helper. Even the mud didn't look so scary anymore.

They used some spare sticks to make a small fence to protect the flowers. Pip danced in the air, glowing bright green again. Leo felt proud. He hadn't let his big feelings take over. Instead, he had asked for help and made the garden safe for the flowers to grow again.

The garden looked peaceful once more. Mrs. Gable thanked Leo for being such a responsible neighbor. Leo smiled at Pip. He knew that whenever big feelings came back, he could always take a slow breath and find a way to make things right. It was a very good day after all.
