Every night, Milo the little mouse loved looking up at the wide starry sky. Tonight, a bright silver moon sparkled right above the tall willow tree. Milo opened his sketchbook and drew a quick silver circle.

Milo went to gather sweet clover for a snack. When he returned to his favorite rock, he gasped in surprise. The glowing moon had crept across the sky, leaving the willow tree far behind. Where was it going?

With a gentle flutter of wings, Barnaby the barn owl landed softly on an oak branch nearby. His red scarf fluttered in the cool breeze. Barnaby smiled kindly down at Milo and asked what was wrong.

Milo sighed softly and tapped his sketchbook with his red pencil. He felt confused and a little impatient. He took a slow breath to calm his busy thoughts and pointed high up into the deep night sky.

Barnaby flapped down to the grass with a cozy hoot. He placed a shiny round acorn on the soft ground. Next, he picked up a small yellow pebble and placed it right beside the smooth acorn.

Barnaby gently spun the shiny acorn in a slow circle with his claw. He explained that our Earth spins like a top all day and night. Because we spin along with it, the moon seems to march across the sky.

Milo blinked his bright eyes and moved the yellow pebble in a slow loop around the spinning acorn. He wondered if the moon moved too. Barnaby nodded warmly, confirming that the moon travels along a great circle.

Together, they practiced the sky dance on the dewy meadow grass. Milo turned himself around like the spinning Earth, giggling with delight. Barnaby walked slowly around Milo, pretending to be the orbiting moon in space.

When Milo stopped spinning, he looked up at the glittering sky again. The bright moon had now traveled all the way to the far pine ridge. Milo excitedly drew the whole journey with arrows across his paper.

Finally, Milo closed his little sketchbook with a sleepy smile and waved goodbye to wise Barnaby. And from that day on, Milo watched the shining moon glide across the starry night, happy to know its secret dance.
