Barnaby the little rabbit loved sunny mornings at Meadow Green School. He packed his wooden crayons, adjusted his favorite yellow overalls, and tucked his lucky blue scarf into his deep pocket. He was ready for a wonderful day.

In the classroom, Mrs. Willow the deer greeted each student with a warm smile. Barnaby sat at his neat wooden desk and began drawing bright purple flowers. Everything felt peaceful, cozy, and bright.

At recess, the students hurried out to the sunny schoolyard. Barnaby knelt in the sand to build a grand castle with tiny pebble towers. He placed a little twig flag right on the very top.

Suddenly, Buster the badger stomped over with a heavy scowl on his face. Without saying a word, he kicked Barnaby's sandcastle flat with his dusty shoe. Barnaby felt his ears droop down in shock and sadness.

"Little bunnies make silly castles," Buster grunted, crossing his heavy arms. Barnaby felt a big knot twist tight in his tummy. He wanted to hide inside his scarf, but he remembered his mother's wise words about courage.

Barnaby took three slow, deep breaths to steady his racing heart. He stood up straight and looked Buster in the eye. "That was unkind, Buster," Barnaby said firmly. "I worked hard on that castle, and you ruined it."

Page 7
Buster only laughed and took a step closer, trying to look even bigger. Barnaby knew that when words alone did not stop someone, it was time to get help. He turned away and walked toward the oak porch.

Mrs. Willow knelt down gently so she was right at Barnaby's eye level. Barnaby explained everything that happened clearly and calmly. "Thank you for telling me, Barnaby," said Mrs. Willow softly. "Asking for help is very brave."

Mrs. Willow walked with Barnaby back to the sandpit and talked to Buster about respect. Buster looked down at his shoes, feeling sorry. Together, Buster and Barnaby gathered smooth river stones to rebuild an even taller castle.

And from that day on, Barnaby knew that his voice had real power. He had stood up tall, spoken his truth, and trusted his teacher. School felt brighter than ever, and Barnaby felt braver than ever before.
