Little Elif's Digestive Adventure

Page 1
Little Elif thought while eating her favorite cookie. 'What happens to this cookie when it goes to my stomach?' she wondered. She decided to find her smart friend, Mr. Owl, right away. Mr. Owl knew everything!

Mr. Owl was reading a book in his library. He smiled when he heard Elif's question. 'That is a wonderful question, Elif! Come, let me tell you about the magical journey of food,' he said. Elif sat down next to Mr. Owl with excitement.

Mr. Owl began: 'Everything starts in our mouths. Our teeth break the food into small pieces. Saliva makes them soft.' Remembering her cookie, Elif started to click her teeth. 'This is a very important step!' she thought.

Then, the food slides down the esophagus. This is like a long tunnel that carries food to our stomach. 'Just like a slide!' said Elif joyfully. Mr. Owl nodded in agreement.

Page 5
When we reach the stomach, the food is churned like a mixer. Stomach acids break them into even smaller pieces. It is like the food turning into a soup. Elif giggled, imagining her stomach.

After the stomach, it is the small intestine's turn. This is a very long and winding path. 'All the good things in the food, the vitamins and minerals, are absorbed into our body from here,' explained Mr. Owl.

After the small intestine takes all the useful things, what remains passes to the large intestine. The large intestine absorbs the water and gets rid of what is left. 'Everything has a job,' said Elif in surprise.

Mr. Owl smiled: 'That's right, Elif! Every part works together so our body stays healthy. This is how we get energy and grow.' Elif thought about how smart her body was.

Elif said, 'So, my cookie went on such a long journey just to give me energy!' Mr. Owl nodded. 'That is why eating healthy food is so important,' he added. Elif thought about what she had just learned.

And from that day on, every time Elif ate, she thought about the wonderful journey food takes through her body. She valued her food more now and knew how important it was to eat healthily. The digestive system was truly fascinating!
