A story to share together
Alp and the Breathing Balloons
Join little Alp and Bubu the Wise Bird on a magical journey of breathing. This story explains how our lungs and nose work in a fun way.

On a sunny morning, Alp was running fast in the garden. When he stopped, he noticed his heart was thumping and he was breathing very quickly. His chest was rising and falling like a balloon. This made Alp very curious.

Just then, Bubu the Wise Bird landed on a tree branch. Alp asked Bubu why he was breathing so fast. Bubu adjusted his glasses and smiled. He gently explained that our bodies need a secret fuel called oxygen.

Bubu said, 'Everything starts with your nose.' Alp touched his nose with his finger. When we breathe in, air enters through our nose, and tiny hairs inside clean the air. This way, only clean and fresh air reaches our lungs.

After passing through our nose, the air travels down a long tunnel called the windpipe. Alp compared this tunnel to a slide. The air happily continues its journey, sliding quickly down this slide toward the main center inside our chest.

At the end of the journey, the air reaches two large, pinkish balloons. These are our lungs. Alp placed his hands on his chest and took a deep breath. He felt with amazement how his chest expanded as his lungs filled with air.

Bubu whispered, 'Your lungs give the air to your blood.' Our blood takes this oxygen and carries it to every corner of our body. From our fingertips to our brain, every part becomes full of energy and comes alive thanks to this fresh air.

But where does the air we use go? Alp looked at Bubu curiously. Bubu said that our body pushes out the air it doesn't need. This is called exhaling. It is a relaxing feeling, just like slowly letting the air out of a balloon.

Page 8
Right under our lungs, there is a strong muscle called the diaphragm. This muscle works like a trampoline. When it goes down, our lungs fill with air. When it goes up, it pushes the air out. How amazingly our body works!

Alp now understood why he breathed fast when he ran. As he moved, his body wanted more fuel. That is why his lungs were working faster to give him energy. Alp felt very strong with this new knowledge.

Finally, Alp took one more deep breath and thanked Bubu. He loved the fresh air and the trees even more now. And from that day on, every time he took a breath, he smiled as he remembered the tiny balloons inside him giving him life.
