A story to share together
Little Drop and the Cheerful River
The story of little Aras, who wonders what happens in our bodies when we drink water, tells how water brings energy and health to our bodies.

On a sunny morning, Aras was running and playing to his heart's content with his friends at the park. The weather was very hot, and Aras's cheeks had turned bright red like apples. Suddenly, he felt very tired and thirsty. He immediately reached for the cold water bottle beside him.

As Aras took a big sip of his water, a tiny voice rose from inside the bottle. It was Drop, a glowing blue water droplet. With her silver crown shining, Drop smiled at Aras. Together, they were going to go on a wonderful journey inside his body.

Drop and her friends slid joyfully into Aras's mouth. It was as if they were gliding down a giant water slide. As they rushed through the esophagus, everything cooled down. Feeling the water refreshing him from the inside, Aras took a deep breath and smiled.

Drop swirled briefly through Aras's stomach with food and digestive juices. The stomach mixed everything gently, then sent the water onward toward the small intestine. Drop waved goodbye to the stomach kitchen and followed the winding path, ready for the next part of her journey.

The small intestine absorbed Drop and many of her water friends into the bloodstream. Soon they were moving through a bright river of blood vessels. The blood carried oxygen and nutrients, while the water helped keep the body's fluids balanced as they traveled toward cells everywhere.

Drop visited Aras's busy cells and muscles. Water helped the cells keep their healthy balance, and that balance helped nerves and muscles do their jobs normally. As Aras rested in the shade, his tired legs began to feel comfortable again after all the running.

Next, Drop reached the signals connected with Aras's brain. Drinking had already told his brain that water was on the way. As his body returned to a healthy water balance, the foggy, thirsty feeling faded and Aras could pay attention to his friends again.

Some water also helped Aras stay cool. Tiny beads of sweat appeared on his warm skin, and when the sweat evaporated, it carried heat away. Drop reminded him that playing on a hot day means taking shade breaks and drinking water regularly.

Finally, Drop passed the kidneys, the body's careful filters. They cleaned wastes from the blood, returned the water the body still needed, and sent extra water toward the bladder as urine. Drop was impressed by how carefully the kidneys kept everything balanced.

Soon Aras felt ready to play again. He kept his water bottle nearby and took sensible sips whenever he felt thirsty, especially while running in the heat. Drop waved from the bottle. Aras now understood that water supports many body systems working together every day.
